Here's a little dialog of what I think my boys thought as babes.
Brayden:
"ahh, love to be held"
"you know if yoy put me down I will scream!!"
"dont fall asleep, dont fall asleep, I know she will put me down, I cant fall asleep"
"AHHH!!!! she put me down!" ~screaming~ "come get me, come get me now!" ~more crying and louder~
"ahh, I love to be held"
(repeat multiple times thru the night and day)
Parker:
"hmm. Mom put me in this crib and turned the lights off. hmmm. I cant see anything. At least I got this nuk in my mouth"
"hmm. must have doozed off and l lost my nuk. Oh, but here is my thumb. nice!"
(repeat thru the night an unknown amount of times because mom is sleeping and Parker is just barely grunting occassionally)
"wow, I feel good!" (8-10 hours later)
Everything in my head is in these little compartments. It's quite interesting really.

I'm quite crunchy really
Havent really thought of myself as being a "crunchy" mommy- but I have become one.
Cloth diapers- is my prefered diaper and use them as often as I can. (not at night and going someplace over the weekend)
Glass Baby Bottles- Brady didnt use glass, but Parker is/will.
Breastmilk and only breastmilk.
Freezing Milk and Storing Milk in Glass. Did that with both boys.
Co-slept with Brady. Only way that kid would sleep and I would sleep. Parker is naturally a crib lover- it is so weird after a kid like B!
However, Chris isnt really on board. I can get him to use cloth by constantly doing the math of the money we are saving. But if I am not throwing a cloth diaper to him at a diaper change he almost always grabs a disposible. Glass bottles, he doesnt really care except they wash way easier then plastic. He is pretty much with me on the breast milk, but if formula was handy he would probably grab it and use it. He is with me on the freezing/storing in glass- he has never bucked that one.
So, other crunchy families out there- how do things work in your house? Both of you in agreement?

I wonder...
While responding to an email to my FIL about PJ sizes, the thought just occured to me that maybe B isnt sleeping thru the night because he is hot? Before Parker we slept with the heat at about 68, daddy was a little chilled, but used an extra blanket and was fine. B and I were content, he never woke sweating and slept thru the night most nights. Since Parker came home Chris has wanted the heat at 70 since Parker is a cold little feller. Brady has been waking lots and often sweaty. Other times when he crawls into our bed, orI put him back in his bed he throws a fit if I try to cover him with a blanket. He will sometimes wake at night screaming, like a bad dream, yelling for Mom. I dont know about anyone else, but when I am too hot I dream more, and I dont sleep well. Maybe he is just too hot? I will mention this to Chris and see what we can do. I dont feel comfortable puting a space heater in Parkers room. Wouldnt Parker be fine at 68, we dress him warm. Until recently he wore a hat at night.....

sleep like a baby?
That line is a lie! It really is, I cringe when I hear it. Brayden has never slept like a baby. ever. I dont get it, we have tried everything. Night routines, routines in general, warm milk, comfy place to sleep. The best we can ask for that is extremely rare is an 8 hour night uninterupted. Usually, he only gets 6 hours of sleep total at night (uninterupted, or interupted) and a 1-2 hour nap during the day. He is a happy and functioning 22 month old.
We don't get it! How can this busy kid not require more sleep? Chris and I are finally not getting angry about it and trying to change him and work with him. I go to bed first, since I seem to have the highest sleep requirements lately. Chris stays up with B, eventually putting him to bed. I wake w/ him at night if and when he does wake. And I wake w/ him in the morning. This works out fine on week nights, but on the weekends it can be more difficult. There is something about weekends that make us both require more sleep then we really need.

misc stuff
We have finally been enjoying some of the great stuff from our garden, and the gardens of others. I love this part of summer! Brady and Chris have eaten all the peas- not that there are many, about 5 pods a day at most- but I think that is the highlight of thier evening- standing in the garden sharing a few peas. I think I have eated 1 pea this whole season! We found a nice neighbor that had green beans for sale, and got lots of them froze for the winter. :)
Chris and I had a big money talk last night. We need to be planning and preparing for my mostly unpaid maternity leave. With B I tried to go back to work at about 8 weeks pt, and it was horrible. So, this time I want 3 months off, no work at all, and we will find a way to make ends meet. But for now, we have chosen to reduce our spending by eliminating a few things. First, our landline. We don't use it! Dr.s call us on it, and telemarketers call us on it. Second, our house cleaners. :( We are just going to postpone them till after my maternity leave. We really dont want to do this. But our plan is Chris is responcible for the floors and tubs. 2 things that are really hard for me to do. Counters, toilets, and dusting are for mine. Tidying is both us daily. Laundry, we have an ok system down for that already. Finally, Chris fessed up to how much $$ he spends daily going out for lunch at work (fast food for gas station). We used to make lunches every day but have gotten away from that. Those 3 things alone, will save us about 300 a month! And, the housecleaners were not even the most costly of the 3 things!!!!

he doesnt get it
My loving husband said to me last night while I was giving Brady his night-night bottle and relaxing with him on the chair..... "aren't you trying to take away his bottle?"
My response, was a glare at him and "not until you are on board with the entire plan". He just doesnt get it. I guess next time we will have to put the plan on paper! (or I just ship him out of my house for a few nights) (shipping him out may be nice, since I got no sleep last night because he was snoring so loudly!)

if I get injured, maybe I can sleep?
I think I am loony when I think this sort of stuff. Such as driving to work.... well if I get into an accident at least I can get so sleep. Or if I get hurt at work maybe I will get some time off and get to sleep.
Am I the only loony one out here that is sleep deprived and wishes pain and injury to get some rest?
